Matthew's Mum sent this note to Siân at the start of July 2011.

Dear Mrs Williams
I am writing to thank you and HPR for your kind words and tributes, also the photo of the u16's in respect of Matthew. I would like to thank the u16's for attending Matthews funeral, although i was unable to speak to them. Matthew always spoke highly of the squad and we laughed when Matthew commented on the height and size of the boys and I understand now from the photo, they look older than the u16's, more like an older squad, could pass for a mans team. As you are aware one of the donations in lieu of flowers for Matthew is going to HPR u16's which i know Matthew would have wanted. the fund will be closed shortly and I will arrange for the monies to be sent. I hope the monies raised will perhaps be used for a new kit and possibly a trophy in memory of Matthew ie. Managers player. If this is in keeping with yourselves Once again i owuld like to thankyou and the club for giving Matthew the oppotunity to work with the Rangers. I cannot accept at this moment that my dear son has left this world, but I know tha he will be carrying on his work and watching over us all,

Elaine Marshallsay  (Matthew's mum)

May 25th 2011: Special Note from Siân Williams Club Chairperson

Matthew Price

I felt great sadness and  shock when I heard that our present u16 coach Matthew Price ("Pricey") died unexpectedly last night at the age of 27. At such a young age this tragic event it is hard to fathom. He was an extremely fit guy, a present Welsh League footballer and promising teacher who would  soon starting teacher-training in Hereford after finishing a year as an assistant teacher with Fitzalan High School. He was hoping to continue coaching the current u16 boys and take them up to Youth Level next season. He will be hugely missed within HPR and I know  I speak for the boys and parents who had contact with him when I say he was such a great guy, had such a good rapport with the boys / parents and coaches that he came into contact with. I know this not only from him being being one of my coaches within HPR, but personally too, as my son is part of the u16's squad. The present u16's are saddened and shocked that he has died so so suddenly.

Matt's funeral will be on Saturday 4th June 11am at St Francis Church, Milford Haven

Tributes after death of Fitzalan teacher Matthew Price
Tributes have been paid to a 27-year-old Cardiff PE teacher who has died after collapsing during a gym workout. Matthew Price, originally from Pembrokeshire, was taken ill while running on a treadmill. Pupils from Mr Price's school, Fitzalan High School, have left tributes on social networking websites calling him a "great teacher". The cause of death is being investigated, including whether he had any undetected health problems. Head teacher Cath Bradshaw said: "Mr Price was a highly respected member of staff at Fitzalan High School who always contributed fully to school life."He enjoyed running an after-school football team which achieved significant success in local competitions. Many of his colleagues also considered themselves as his friend. This has come as a shock to the whole school community and he will be sorely missed by all staff and pupils at Fitzalan. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time." Many pupils have also left tributes on Facebook. One wrote: "A wonderful teacher that was loved by everyone has passed away in a gym. I have never seen my whole school this upset." Mr Price, originally from Herbrandston, played football for Cardiff side Roath Park Galaxy and coached the Heath Park Rangers under-16 team.

Galaxy club secretary Adam Jenkins said: "He was a sound guy.

Fittest players
"He was funny and he was always the life and soul of the party, always getting people together, just a good friend really." He said Mr Price was one of the fittest players at the club. "He played for us twice a week and went to the gym four or five times a week so it was a massive shock to everyone," he said. He added there were plans for a testimonial game in Mr Price's memory between Galaxy and his former club in Pembrokeshire. A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "We are treating the death as non suspicious and are preparing a file for the coroner." A spokeswoman for Cardiff coroner's office said: "We are aware of the death and the cause of death is currently being investigated."

On a personal note - from a parent of one of the boys he coached......what an awesome guy! To be taken so young is so so tragic. The interaction he had with the boys & parents was a pleasure to see. His professionalism on and off the pitch was top class. The boys respected him and looked to him for guidance on and off the pitch. He never had to raise his voice to the boys.. as they would listen attentively to his thoughts / advice and instructions on how they were playing, even when they weren't playing that well! The u16's are in disbelief and utter shock of his passing.
From an HPR organisational point of view - what a gent!.. his manner to other teams / offcials / parents - always so so professional. His ethos of fair play and behaviour on and off the pitch was an assett to HPR and something that i as Chair of HPR was extremley proud to have a Manager / Coach of that quality representing HPR.
You'll be missed Matt.......

My deepest condolences goes to Matthew's Family,Friends and all the Players and Officials of the Club.
I officiated in many U16s games with Matthew last season and the way he conducted himself was a total credit to him his family and the Club.
He never criticized or complained if a decision didnt go his sides way and was always 100% behind his 'boys'.
A thoroughly decent man who will be sadly missed.

Mr Matthew Price
On behalf of all at Canton Rangers FC we would like to send on our condolences to the family and friends of Mr Matthew Price.
